Serve > Advisory Board > Worship Leadership Worship Leadership Sunday by Sunday and throughout the week many folks work behind the scenes and within the worship services to bring our liturgies to life. If you would be interested in becoming involved in the worship leadership of the community, please contact one of the team leaders by calling the church office at 416-922-4948 or sending email to connecting@theredeemer.ca. Sunday morning 9:30 worship teams (time commitment – 1 Sunday per month) Four worship teams help to provide the leadership each Sunday. Each team greets those attending the service, reads the scripture readings, leads the prayers of the people, and hosts the coffee-time following the service. Team members are also asked to provide leadership during the special services throughout the year. Training is provided, and an online handbook providing more details can be viewed by clicking here. For further information about joining a worship team, please speak to John Stevens. Readers – 8 AM, 11:15 AM, and 7 PM service (time commitment – once every 4 to 6 weeks as scheduled) At the 8 AM, 11:15 AM, and 7 PM services, there is a group of dedicated, trained members of the parish who provide leadership by reading the lesson from the Hebrew (Old Testament) and Christian (New Testament) texts. In addition, at special services through the year readers are needed. For an outline of what this ministry entails, please click here.
For further information please speak with Bob Barton. Prayers of the People – 11:15 AM service (time commitment – once every 4 to 6 weeks as scheduled) Each Sunday during the morning services, a member of the parish gathers the community together in the prayers of the people. After a short intercession or bidding, which names a concern - for the world, for the sick, for those in need - silence is offered for those gathered to name those they want to remember in prayer. Leading the prayers of the people is one of the ways you can share your gifts of time and talent at the 11:15 service. Click here for more specifics. Please speak to any of the clergy if you would like to pursue this ministry. Communion Ministers – 9:30 AM and 11:15 AM service (time commitment – once every 4 to 6 weeks as scheduled) At each service where the Eucharist is celebrated, members of the parish assist the clergy by offering the bread or the chalice to those gathered around the table. There are a number of other services throughout the year where the Eucharist is celebrated and communion ministers also assist on those occasions.
Please click here for further details. If you feel this ministry is for you, Tony Crosbie can help you become a communion minister. Servers – 9:30 AM, 11:15 AM and 7 PM services (time commitment – once every 4 to 6 weeks as scheduled) At most of our services, a group known as the Servers guild participates in the service by being crucifer, acolytes and, when the occasion calls for it, thurifer. Most of our servers are adults, though being of a 'certain age' is not a prerequisite. The servers lead the entrance and gospel processions, assist in preparing the table for communion, and lead the recessional.
At the 7 PM service they lead the procession at Evensong. As with the other worship leadership groups Servers are needed at special services throughout the year. Training is provided, and an online handbook with more information on this ministry is available by clicking here. If you are interested in joining the Servers guild, any of the clergy can get you connected with the guild. Greeters - 11:15 AM and 7 PM services (time commitment - once every 4 weeks) Each Sunday at the 11:15 AM and 7 PM services, a team of greeters assists with the service by greeting those who come to worship and by distributing hymn books and orders of service. At the 11:15 service, they also help with the flow of traffic during communion. Please click here for more information about this ministry area. Johanna Lavergne and Janet Elliott would welcome your inquiry about joining one of the teams. Chancel Guild (time commitment – once a month) Members of the Chancel Guild prepare the worship space for Sunday morning services on Saturdays and do some set up and clean up on Sundays. In addition they provide assistance in ensuring that all is ready for special services. They make certain that the worship books are displayed for the clergy and servers, and that the vessels and linens to be used in the service are clean and in place. Christopher Cantlon is responsible for the guild and can provide training for those interested in helping with this vital ‘behind the scenes’ role.
