Space > Making More Room Project Making More Room Project
Making More Room is one of the five core strategies of Redeemer's Three Year Plan. The others are Proclaiming God's Presence, Sharing our Abundance, Realizing Bold Dreams, and Demonstrating our Faith in Jesus. The goal of the Making More Room Project is to transform our space in a way that honours the real needs and issues of the congregation and staff. Building on the success of the 2001 lower level renovation, the Making More Room Project Team has developed a three phase plan for the continued transformation of the church. Phase one addressed our most pressing issue – to create more seating capacity and improve the liturgical experience in the sanctuary. Phase one was in three parts. First, we wanted to open up the narthex by removing the low ceiling and redundant steel structure that held up the folding wall partitions we no longer used and integrating the space with the nave. Second, we wanted to re-purpose the chapel into a new seating area that was focused on the chancel. Third, we wanted to install a new sound system. In order to keep the costs under control, the interior finishes and lighting would be basic but functional. Our intention was to postpone the final finishes to a later phase as funding permits. Construction on phase one took approximately three months to complete, from June to September 2010. Phase two will focus on the building exterior, transforming the front stairs, restoring the historic south façade, new exterior lighting and a new interactive street sign. Phase three will focus on the church interior with new lighting and finishes. For project updates, including photographs of the summer 2010 renovations, please click here. |
