Funerals
I am the Resurrection and the Life, says the Lord. Whoever has faith in me shall have life, even though he die.[John 11.25] There are many rites at the time of death and in the days that follow – prayers at the time of death; prayers at the funeral home or church during a period of ‘visitation’; the funeral liturgy – at the funeral home or in the church; the committal of the body or ashes at the graveside. At the time of death, our clergy are available to provide pastoral support to family members and friends through any or all of these rites. Prayers at the time of death offered for the person who has died and for their family and friends gathered helps to acknowledge the death and to seek God's comfort. Like the prayers at the time of death, prayers at the funeral home or the church during a period of visitation give us the opportunity to take a few moments from the often busy time that surrounds the preparations for the funeral to seek God’s comfort and to give thanks for the life of the deceased. The funeral liturgy can take place at the funeral home or in the church. Our clergy, director of music and staff can help you develop a funeral service that gives thanks for the life of the person who has died and blesses the memory of them. If the funeral takes place in the church, our schola can provide musical leadership in the liturgy. We also offer, on an occasional basis, a one morning workshop on funeral planning, for those who would like to work through what they want to have happen at the time of their death well in advance of the need. Some find it helpful to have their wishes known to the family while they are healthy so that when death does occur the family doesn’t need to wonder about what choices to make. |
